"They too ate birds whole, their heads and feet and bones" pg 210 p 14
It shows that these boys are so hungry that they are willing to eat whole birds. All they do to delay there hunger is pluck the birds but after that they just eat the bird. It shows that these boys are truly starving. It really shows that the trip to the USA is not an easy or pretty one. It makes you think about what you eat.
It makes me realize that I have never truly been starving. I feel that people are just whining because they haven't eatten in hours while these boys don't complain after days without food.

Have you ever really seen anyone starving?

"... they came to stop the spread of Islam..."
This quote hows that people really see Islam as a disease. It shows what life was like back home for Achak. People are alking about each other as if one has the plague and they really hate each other. I think it shows that The Dinka are just as bad as The Arabs.
I read a lot of zombie books and it makes me realize that The Dinka see The Arabs as almost a zombie. they talk about Islam as if its a sickness and they are trying to cure people.

Have you ever discriminated againt someone because of their Identity?

  1. I was also shocked by the hunger and eagerness to kill these birds. I have never actually seen anybody starving. unless you count starving for attention. people do many drastic things when they want attention or need attention.

I never thought about the Dinka discrimintating. It is interesting to think abou thtough. Because it is so true. they are always judging people (Arabs) and you do not notice because the book is told in their point of veiw.
I have definately discriminated against poeple. I am not proud of it. But I think that it happens with everybody in the place that we are brought up.

  2. Response #1: I think you make a very good point. Most people don't understand the true meaning of being starved. These boys are truly starving and because of that, they are willing to eat a bird.
Question #1: I don't physically know anyone who has been starving but I imagine that homeless people feel that way sometimes.

Response #2: I like the connection that you make between the quote and diseases. I think it shows that some people really think other races as a disease. Although it is wrong, everyone has their own opinion but you shouldn't look down on people.
Question #2: I would never discriminate anyone because of their identity. I think that's wrong and I hope nobody ever does that to me.
